College Classes for High School Students
Students in Yadkin County Schools have the unique opportunity to take college courses while they are still in high school. There are over 50 different college courses from which students can choose. These courses are offered in a variety of formats: online, in a classroom, or a combination of both. Classes are primarily offered through Surry Community College, either in Dobson or at the Yadkin Center campus. If a class is not available through SCC, students may be able to take the course through Forsyth Tech Community College or Wilkes Community College.
Students that enroll in community college classes can earn high school and college credit at the same time. College courses in the College Transfer Pathways are weighted on a scale of 5.0.

Career & College Promise: North Carolina high school students can earn college credits through a special initiative called Career & College Promise. Qualified students in high school can take a variety of college-credit courses at no cost to them or to their families. Students earn both high school and college credit for completed courses. Courses are offered during fall, spring, and summer through the North Carolina Community College System. Career & College Promise offers different pathways to help advance eligible students’ post high school success. Those pathways are: College Transfer and Career & Technical Education.
